Another stunning piece by Sophie Theakston, whose work is inspired by the antiquities and religious symbolism she encounters on her travels.
Polki diamonds are one of the oldest forms of cut diamond. First introduced in India and worn by the Mahajaras, they are still the traditional jewels for Indian weddings. They retain their original rough form and have a flat, polished surface with varied shallow facets at the edges to reflect back the light. Set in 18ct gold, they are backed with a foil for maximum sparkle, too.
The diamonds are about 8mm tall and the earrings are 2.5cm in total length.
